“Churches of Refuge” Housing
The Churches of Refuge Housing Program is for ministers of our state who have been terminated from their church staff position without a place to live. This program is based upon the scriptural record of cities set aside where people could flee for protection and rest. (Numbers 35:6-28; Joshua 20:1-9)
- Several churches and groups of churches have made homes available to forced terminated ministers. These ministers will be allowed to live in the church homes, without cost, for a specified period of time.
- The Church-Minister Relations Department provides suggested guidelines to the church and the minister to assist in the negotiating process. The final decision is made between the church and the minister.
- A goal of this program is to give the ministers job identity as they are connected to the church in whose home they live.
