The Prayer Component
We live in a world where countless individuals die every year without knowing God’s amazing gift of eternal life. Imagine if every
believer shared his or her faith with a lost person!
That is the vision driving a 10-year National Evangelism Initiative called God’s Plan for Sharing – GPS. The goal is every believer
sharing, every person hearing – fulfilling the Great Commission in North America by 2020.
The first step in this plan does not involve walking; it involves kneeling. Prayer must be the initial focus in this
God-sized task.
The prayer component contains the following mileposts:
- Preparing God’s people to pray
- PrayerWalk your community
- Continually discover lost people and examine their needs
- Pray for lost people
- Praise God continually
Prayer will prepare our hearts for reaching the lost and leading our churches to join God on this important mission.
The public launch of “Covering Mississippi in Prayer” is at our 2010 Mississippi Baptist Convention. That will be followed by prayer
rallies in every county of Mississippi beginning in January of 2011.
Mississippi Baptists have already begun praying and preparing for the launch of this initiative. The state countdown to “Covering
Mississippi in Prayer” began in February, 2010, and will continue throughout the year. On the associational level, the goal is to provide
state task force prayer leaders, provide congregations with a prayer resource guide and train church prayer coordinators.
