Reports > Sewing Souls
In September of 2011, our church was busy preparing for Operation Christmas Child. In pursuit of creating these boxes, several women
began to discuss the possibility of sewing pillowcase dresses to include in the OCC boxes. This was the foundation for our Sewing Souls
ministry. After making 200 dresses for OCC during the next 3 months, the ladies of our group wanted to branch out to reach others in our
community. This gave us the opportunity to minister and share the love of God.
This is when Sewing Souls took flight. We
began making fleece blankets that are being given to the families of patients in Baptist Desoto Hospital’s intensive care unit, and
blankets for patients receiving cancer treatments at The West Clinic. Since then, we have made dresses for children in an all girls
orphanage in Belize, and dresses for the 2012 Operation Christmas Child boxes. We have also made blankets for the children attending
Parkway’s Mother’s Day Out program, and care packages for our youth attending the World Changers mission trip.
Our small sewing group started with 5 to 7 women and has grown to 15 members sharing the love of God through our sewing ministry. Our
current mission is making quilted lap blankets for a new ministry to reach Parkway’s homebound members. Every item we sew is prayed over
by the women of our group before it is handed out. Every blanket has a scripture verse and Parkway’s contact information attached to it.
We meet at the church to sew and fellowship on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month from 10am to Noon. We would like to invite anyone
wanting to participate to join our ministry!
