Youth Sunday School Class Ministry Positions
How would you define good Youth Sunday School? Effective Bible study that involves and challenges teenagers to understand and apply the
truths of God’s Word? Good Youth Sunday School doesn’t just happen-committed youth leaders are special persons, called by and responsible to
God for ministry to the youth through the Bible teaching-reaching organization of the church.
What is your role in Youth Sunday School? Following are brief explanations of responsibilities of the Youth Sunday School leadership team:
Teacher
A teacher’s responsibility is:
- To plan weekly for effective Bible study
- To reach youth through regular contacts, participation in personal visitation, and class outreach events
- To teach youth the Bible by guiding discovery
- learning opportunities through total period teaching
- To care for youth members and nonmembers and their families and to lead youth to care for one another
- To witness to unsaved members and nonmembers and their families, nd to lead them into active church membership
- To encourage fellowship and assimilation among youth and others on the leadership team by planning monthly fellowship opportunities
- To lead youth to worship by helping them develop a life-style that includes personal quiet times and participation in worship
Department Director
A department director is responsible:
- To participate in the growth of Youth Sunday School through annual planning, communication, organization, and evaluation of the work
of the department
- To lead weekly planning meetings; to administer the work of the department’s leadership team
- To reach youth through personal visitation; to work with the department outreach-evangelism leader to plan department outreach
events for youth and workers
- To teach youth the Bible by guiding discovery-learner opportunities within total period teaching in department time
- To care for workers and youth class members and nonmembers and their families and to lead members of the department to care for others
- To witness to unsaved members and nonmembers and their families
- To encourage fellowship (assimilation) among youth class members and workers by planning fellowship opportunities
- To lead youth and workers to develop personal quiet times and participate in corporate worship
Division Director
A division director’s responsibility is:
- To administer Youth Sunday School through coordinating planning, training, and communication
- To reach youth through personal visitation - to lead the youth division to maintain an effective outreach program
- To teach as a substitute when needed, and to serve as a model for other youth workers
- To care for members and nonmembers and coordinate the division to do so
- To witness to unsaved members and nonmembers and to coordinate the efforts of members and workers in witnessing to the unsaved
- To promote fellowship among youth and workers and to plan at least two division fellowship events annually
Department Outreach-Evangelism Leader
These job responsibilities include:
- To plan and conduct department outreach and evangelism activities
- To participate in personal visitation and group outreach events; equip the members and workers to develop their reaching skills
- To witness to unsaved members and nonmembers and to plan evangelism training events
Department Secretary
A department secretary is responsible:
- To process and maintain department records and to compile reports for department leaders
- To process and maintain visitation records, and to maintain an up-to-date prospect file
- To participate in weekly planning meetings by providing record information To provide records for members and leaders involved in
caring ministry.
- To maintain all department supplies, including ordering and distributing periodicals
The Class Leader
The Class Leader is a youth who assists the teacher by assuming leadership responsibilities.
The Care Leader
The Care Leader is a youth enlisted to care for groups of one to four youth; he or she relates directly to the teacher.
