Transitional Pastor
“Why do I need special training to be a transitional pastor? I’ve been a pastor of churches for 36 years .... and been a rather
successful one, too!!” This is a natural, normal question. After all, a congregation is a congregation. Is there really anything different
about pastoring in an “in between time?”
The answer to that question is emphatically “yes!” It’s different from several points of view. A congregation’s feelings and emotions are
much more on edge. Most significantly, the season for change and opportunity for new direction is never more fertile. The interim period can
be an exciting time in the life of a congregation. These are indeed God given opportunities.
The Church-Minister Relations Department provides training for the ministers who will lead during this interim period.
Note: Churches may call our office for a list of available interims.
If we can assist your association or church, or if you have a question, please contact our department at 1-800-748-1651 or
