“Churches of Refuge” Housing

Purpose:

The Churches of Refuge Housing Program is for ministers of our state who have been terminated from their church staff position without a place to live. This program is based upon the scriptural record of cities set aside where people could flee for protection and rest. (Numbers 35:6-28; Joshua 20:1-9)

General Guidelines:

  1. Several churches and groups of churches have made homes available to forced terminated ministers. These ministers will be allowed to live in the church homes, without cost, for a specified period of time.
  2. The Church-Minister Relations Department provides suggested guidelines to the church and the minister to assist in the negotiating process. The final decision is made between the church and the minister.
  3. A goal of this program is to give the ministers job identity as they are connected to the church in whose home they live.

If we can assist your association or church, or if you have a question, please contact our department at 1-800-748-1651 or 601-968-3800 or by e-mail chtaylor@mbcb.org.
