About Mississippi Baptist All-State Youth Choir and Orchestra

The Mississippi Baptist All-State youth Choir and Orchestra (MBASYC&O) began in 1991 out of a vision to musically and spiritually
strengthen Mississippi Southern Baptist high school students. The choir has grown from 40 in 1993 to over 120 singers. These young people
share their love for Christ throughout the state and across the country. Students audition each October and November for positions with the
choir and orchestra. Those who are selected attend a three-day rehearsal camp and seven-day concert tour the following summer.
In 2002, MBASYC&O began its Tenth Anniversary celebration. Our tenth choir traveled around Mississippi, concluding in Jackson with an
alumni reunion and concert. Then, in June 2003, the MBASYC&O traveled on mission to Maryland and Delaware to conclude the tenth
anniversary events.
The choir is directed by Dr. Jamie Meaders, chair of the music department at Mississippi College in Clinton. The orchestra is conducted
by Mr. David Young, instrumental consultant for the Church Music Department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board. Miss Susan
Luttrell, youth/drama consultant for the Church Music Department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board, is the coordinator of MBASYC&O.
