A record number of participants convened May 1-2 at Colonial Heights Church in Ridgeland for the 2009 Witnessing Through Media (WTM) Conference, which included two new workshops that drew a lot of interest.

“We had a total of 212 registrants at this year’s conference, which is the largest in the 23-year history of this event,” said Ian Richardson, coordinator of the conference and director of communication services at the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board in Jackson.

“We offered 2 new workshops this year in response to the needs of our churches — Lighting for Worship, and Basic Graphic Design for IMAG (image magnification). Both workshops were well attended, so we will look very seriously at including them in future conferences,” Richardson said.

In addition to the two new workshops, other workshops conducted at the two-day conference were:

The Witnessing Through Media Conference also features an annual Awards Banquet during which outstanding local church media productions for the past year are recognized in a number of categories.

“We believe Mississippi Baptists are setting the standards in many areas of Christian media while utilizing the latest techniques and equipment, and we want to recognize the best of those productions each year,” Richardson said.

Witnessing through Media award winners for 2009 included:

First Church, Biloxi

New Heights Church, Summit

Highland Church, Meridian

Mississippi College

First Church, Jackson

First Church, Laurel

“We were fortunate in having a group of highly-qualified conference leaders to share their expertise with our folks,” Richardson said. “Our prayer is that this training will be of value as our churches seek to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through the avenue of media.”

The Witnessing Through Media Conference is a ministry of the Mississippi Cooperative Program.
