2009 Central Hills video
Central Hills Baptist Retreat first opened its doors in June of 1979, when the first camping sessions were conducted for young boys from Mississippi Baptist Churches. Way back then accommodations consisted only of tents and bath houses, so it was no surprise that CHBR quickly became a favorite destination for boys all over Mississippi and even in surrounding states.
Since then comfortable, modern lodges that include central heat and air have been added. With these additions, boys, girls, youth and adults from across Mississippi – and also from Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and even as far away as Kansas, have spent meaningful days of their lives at camp.
Today Central Hills Baptist Retreat occupies 540 of the prettiest acres in Mississippi. Being located in the heart of Mississippi, Central Hills is easily accessible to all Mississippi Baptists.
The primary purpose of Central Hills is to provide a Christian camping experience for boys and girls ages 5 to 18. The facility is used almost exclusively for the summer camp program from late May to early August. Limited opportunities for other camps, retreats, and conferences during the summer may be available, but by advance registration only.
Throughout the rest of the year (mid-August through mid-May) Central Hills is available for camps, conferences, and retreats. Any age group can be accommodated. The off-season time is especially favored by churches, schools, student organizations, college ministries, and ministerial organizations.
Central Hills offers all the traditional activities one would expect at camp plus a few pleasant surprises.
The biggest surprise may be our modern lodges that come complete with central heat and air conditioning. The three lodges can sleep a total of 260 guests. Plus, hotel-like accommodations in the form of three guest rooms at the administration building and a two-bedroom trailer are also available.
Central Hills boasts a 16-acre lake with excellent fishing. Plus, groups may want to spend time on the lake canoeing. A lakeside amphitheater which seats 200 can be a setting for special worship for groups.
The coolest surprise is the Junior Olympic Pool that is available May through September. Certified lifeguards are supplied by the camp.
The newest and biggest draw at Central Hills very well may be the Adventure Rope Course, consisting of 2 challenging opportunities. The Low Course includes the following: “Spider’s Web”, “Nitro Crossing”, “All-Aboard Platform”, “Tomahawk Traverse”, “Wild Woozie” (JR’s favorite), “Giant’s Fingers”, “TP Shuffle”, “Trust Fall”, and “Obstacle Wall”.
The High Course includes “Jacob’s Ladder”, “Burma Bridge”, “Cat Walk”, a rock climbing wall, and a 125-foot zip line!
The Adventure Rope Course is only available with our certified staff present, so please reserve this activity when making your group reservation.
Horseback Riding seems to be everybody’s favorite event at Central Hills. 15 people can ride at a time and all necessary ranch hands are provided.
The newest addition at Central Hills is the Regulation Gymnasium where basketball, volleyball, and other activities are made available.
Next to the gym is our Regulation Flag Football Field, where flag football, soccer, and Polish Softball (national sport of Kosciusko) are played.
Those who really want to take aim at the activities offered here can take a shot at Archery and Riflery. Certified instructors for each are provided.
Don’t forget the lighted Amphitheater in the woods seating 200; a covered Chapel that is lighted and also seats 200; a picnic area at the lake; primitive camp site complete with tents and bathhouse; hiking trails; a 41-pad R.V. Park at the lake, complete with hook-ups; an R.V. Dining Hall that seats 150 and comes equipped with kitchen, bath area, and washer/dryer. No trip to camp is complete without a visit to the snack shop/gift shop.
Central Hills is operated by the Men’s Ministry Department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board.
